Introducing Chain Reaction: the new skills-based volunteering program through the Lineage Foundation for Good

The Lineage Foundation for Good has launched Chain Reaction, a new skills-based volunteering program focused on connecting Lineage team members with nonprofit organizations who are advancing critical work in their communities.

Nonprofit organizations are mission-driven, deeply knowledgeable about the communities they serve and highly effective at delivering impact. But all too often, they’re operating with limited time, staff and resources while navigating the complex operational environments of the nonprofit space. To take on these challenges, they need more than just additional hands. They need access to specialized expertise to help strengthen systems, improve efficiency and support long-term sustainability.

Chain Reaction was created to meet that opportunity.

Through the program, Lineage team members from across the global network partner with nonprofit organizations to contribute their professional skills in logistics, operations, technology, finance, human resources, marketing and more. The goal is to complement the deep community knowledge nonprofits already possess with Lineage team members’ operational and strategic support to help their work go even further.

A skills-based approach to supporting nonprofit partners

Chain Reaction was sparked by real conversations with nonprofit teams, during which it became clear that there was a real and growing need for specialized support in the nonprofit community. The program was built to address that need.

By matching Lineage team members from across the global network with nonprofits in need of consultation and professional support, Lineage team members who are used to fast-paced problem solving in complex systems can bring their expertise to these organizations.

The key to making this program work is its structure. Instead of initiating one-time volunteer activities, the program facilitates project-based work over multiple weeks. This gives Lineage team members the time and space required to get to know the individual needs of the nonprofit teams and tailor solutions to meet those specific needs.

Cross-functional expertise from across Lineage’s global team

Lineage team members spend their days solving high-stakes problems in the global food supply chain, whether that’s navigating complex transportation schedules, improving and optimizing warehouse processes, managing teams or building sustainable systems. Chain Reaction taps into that wealth of real-world expertise and directs it to nonprofits in need.

For Lineage team members who volunteer, it’s a great chance to use their skills to directly help their communities. For nonprofit organizations, it means having someone in the room with a fresh perspective, new ideas and the expertise needed to put them into action.

The work is collaborative by nature and not about providing impersonal deliverables. It’s about working side by side with each individual nonprofit to understand the unique challenges and constraints they face and provide the best possible solutions.
