Growing without the pains: How Lineage scaled a produce customer’s supply chain
August 25, 2025
Case Study Snapshot

Issues Addressed
- Rapid seasonal volume surge
- Insufficient storage capacity for projected harvest
- Need for integrated transportation and warehouse alignment
- Time-sensitive execution and cold chain continuity
Overview
A frozen produce customer forecasted a record-breaking harvest, far exceeding their existing cold storage footprint. They turned to Lineage to build a scalable solution fast, without compromising control, temperature integrity or delivery timelines.
Scaling fast without losing control
Problems crop up in the global food supply chain. Whether you’re planning for a peak season or hustling to navigate disruptions, Lineage delivers a breadth of scalable solutions that put your business ahead.
Sometimes, those “problems” are actually signs of success.
That was the case for one of our customers, a frozen produce manufacturer and distributor, who anticipated a record-setting year ahead. Their projected growth reset every assumption in their storage and distribution model, triggering the need to scale up fast.
In a matter of weeks, we went from managing three facilities to activating 15.
“Our ability to support our customers through periods of scale and growth is critical and what sets Lineage apart from our competitors. Together, we identified the most optimal locations and leveraged integrated transportation solutions, ensuring business continuity throughout the entire process.”
– Matthew Jordan, Sales Manager
Preparing for the harvest: a frozen produce customer’s challenge
Our customer, a frozen produce manufacturer and distributor, identified a 105,600,000-pound harvest—far beyond their existing cold storage capacity. The produce wasn’t even picked yet, but they needed to act fast. Storage space had to be secured across the region, with infrastructure in place to protect the product’s temperature integrity every step of the way.
A healthy serving of strategy: how Lineage solved for scale
The challenge wasn’t just size, it was strategy. Our customer didn’t just need more facilities, but they had to be the right facilities too. Together, we built a solution that scaled with them, selecting cold storage sites that aligned with key distribution routes and ensured seamless freight movement.
We helped our customer get ahead by providing:
Capacity across 15 temperature-controlled warehouses
Strategically located sites to optimize distribution
Integrated access to cold rail and over-the-road transport
The result: cold chain alignment from crop to customer
The new plan called for the storage of 64,000 pallets of frozen produce; a major lift that demanded speed, precision and seamless coordination across the network. With the strategy in place, Lineage’s operations and transportation teams sprang into action.
After activating space across the 15 facilities, we executed more than 400 temperature-controlled shipments via rail and over-the-road transportation. This helped connect every pallet to its next destination with temperature integrity intact.
Throughout the surge, our teams maintained open lines of communication, balancing inventory, adapting to shifting volumes and helping ensure the details were accounted for. The result? A season of record growth delivered without disruption.
Built to flex, ready to scale
In the cold chain, timing is everything and scale can’t come at the expense of control. This project proved what’s possible when a partner is ready before the need arises. With a deep network, integrated transportation and proactive planning, Lineage helped the customer stay ahead of a record-setting harvest and turn a logistics challenge into a competitive advantage.
Because growth only works when your supply chain can grow with you.
